How Does Remote Online Notarization Work?

Step 1: Schedule Your Appointment

Technology Requirements

  • Each signer must have their own computer, tablet, or smartphone
  • For the best experience, use Google Chrome on a computer or a current mobile device with a camera, microphone, and a reliable internet connection

During the scheduling process, you will be able to upload your document and provide the information needed for your notarization.

Step 2: Verify Your Identity

Before meeting with the notary, you will complete two identity verification steps.

Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA)

You will be asked five credit history questions generated from public records. To continue, you must answer four of the five questions correctly, with a passing score of 80%

ID Verification

Next, you'll verify your identity by uploading your government-issued photo ID and taking a live selfie. Simply follow the instructions provided in your invitation email.

Step 3: Meet with Your Online Notary

Once your identity has been verified, you'll be connected with a commissioned online notary through a secure live video session.

The notary will:

  • Verify your identity.
  • Confirm that you understand the document and sign it willingly.
  • Witness your electronic signature.
  • Complete the notarization.

Your notary will guide you through the entire process, making your appointment simple and stress-free.

Step 4: Receive Your Notarized Documents

After your notarization is complete, you'll receive an email containing your electronically notarized document.

Your completed document will be available immediately for you to download, save, print, or forward as needed.
